How it works

Become a spelling champion

Words are graded from easy to hard within each class, so every round warms you up before the tricky ones arrive.

Choose a class

Pick Class 2–8 and a round of 10, 15, 20 or 25 words.

Listen carefully

Replay the word, slow it down or hear it used in a sentence.

Learn from mistakes

A letter-by-letter comparison shows wrong, missing, extra and swapped letters.

Collect your certificate

Download or print it, then practise only the words you missed.

“i before e, except after c”

When the sound is “ee”, write ie (believe, field) — but ei after c (receive, ceiling).

Watch out for rule-breakers: weird, seize, protein.

Doubling the last letter

Short words ending in one vowel + one consonant double it before -ing, -ed or -er: run → running, big → bigger.

The same happens when the stress is on the last syllable: begin → beginning, admit → admitted.

Silent letters

Some letters are written but not spoken: knife, write, island, castle, yacht, pneumonia, thumb. Say the word “as it is written” in your head to remember them.

British spelling in India

Indian schools follow British spelling: colour, favourite, neighbour, jewellery, recognise. American spellings like color are accepted here, but you will see a reminder.

Practice tip: Break long words into syllables — tem·per·a·ture, ac·com·mo·date — and spell one chunk at a time. Teachers can open Classroom mode and run a whole-class spelling bee on the smartboard.
